Malayan Tapir (Tapirus indicus)

Due to large scales of deforestation and an increase in hunting, the Malayan tapir is listed as endangered in The World Conservation Union (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.

Zoo Negara Malaysia cares for 6 of this shy creatures. It is the largest of the four tapir species. It can grow up to 1.8 meters long (6 feet) and weighs up to 350 kg (720 pounds). Your support will assist us in providing a variety of enrichments to stimulate their senses within their natural setting and other maintenance needed around their open concept exhibit.
