Orangutans are found only in the rain forests of the Southeast Asian islands of Borneo and Sumatra. There are two species of orangutans; Bornean orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) and Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii). Between these two, the Sumatran orangutan is more critically endangered.
Zoo Negara Malaysia houses these two breeds; 3 Bornean orangutans and 8 Sumatran orangutans. Similar to us, these intelligent creatures need constant and a variety of enrichments for stimulation of their senses; e.g. puzzles and board games our keepers prepares specially for them. Your support will assist us in providing a variety of enrichments to stimulate their senses within their natural setting and other maintenance needed around their open concept exhibit. Help us care for these precious wildlife and prolong their existence for the next generation to appreciate.
